CUSTOM CHROME EUROPE FAAKER SEE CHAMPIONSHIP ARNEITZ 100 SHOWMEILE – ARNEITZ CUSTOM SHOW
European Bike Week the 22nd edition – and while visitors enjoyed some great riding days from Tuesday to Thursday, the weather conditions on Saturday were not what one expect from a „day out“ around Faak and for the 22nd Harley-Davidson Parade. Fortunately, the Custom Chrome Europe Ride-In Show is „waterproof“ for more than a decade – and consequently retained its strong position even in the rain with almost 50 participants of absolutely outstanding quality, including customizers from all over Europe: The winning bikes alone came from TEN different nations! Judging was – as always – extremely difficult and tight, performed by some of the best custombike journalists and bloggers from Europe, plus one very special guest!
While the weather forecast was not promising for the entire week, the Carinthian weather proved great for much of the week: Only Friday afternoon, the rain finally came down to the southernmost corner of Austria and did cast a shadow on both the Parade and the CCE Faaker See Championship on Saturday. The bigger was the surprise, when most of the competitors signed in almost in the first hour after opening the show mile under the roof of the Arneitz Custom Show and plenty of visitors arriving very early to check out the incoming bikes. In the four „core“ classes of the „Faaker See Championship“, the fight for the € 1.000,– cheques was a tough one, but this year´s event saw interesting bikes in all categories.
Again, the four top categories Championship, Modified HD, Jammer Old School and RevTech-Performance saw tight competition between some of the best customizers of Europe, this time especially from Italy, Russia, Slovakia, Belgium and Germany. „Deeva“, the handcrafted masterpiece by Mirko Perugini of Gallery Motorcycles/Italy was almost unbeatable and took the top award in the Championship class, € 1.000,– in CCE parts. Apart from the superb restored (and with two Linkert carbs „period-customized“) 1920 Model J motor, the bike is completely handcrafted to perfection. Second place went to an outstanding customized (and turbo-charged!) Ural Boxer which achieved record-speeds on both the Bonneville Salt Flats and the first-ever Lake Baikal Speedweek in Russia – the latter in February 2019 ON ICE! This also won a special award be Biker’s Life Magazine of Italy which will sponsor an ad page for the 2020 event. Following in 3rd place, „Respect“ by Black Steel Choppers of Samorin/Slovakia was a great „Dragstyle“ custombike of outstanding quality.
In the „Modified HD“ class, Thunderbike of Hamminkeln/Germany set their marks with a top custombike, created from a year 2019 „Breakout“ base. So the € 1.000,– cheque in the „Modified HD“ class went to Germany. In 2nd place, “La Peligrosa” by Pepe Peligrosa of Baelem/Belgium presented one outstanding „Chicano Softail“ that boasted everything a true“Chicano“ needs: Glamour and style – and a low riding position with a sky-high ape hanger! The team of Asso Special Bikes celebrated their 3rd place with a burnout, since their high-performance turbo-powered V-Rod again underlined the superb customizing of the Italian top customizers.
If you think the era of RevTech engines is fading, think twice: The existing motors are still utilized in outstanding custom projects, as „Rapid Fire“ by TGS underlined in this year´s event: Owner Thomas Buchberger went home with a € 1.000,– cheque for CCE parts he sure will pass on to Tobias Guckel! Very close behind Asso Special Bikes with a superb handcrafted Bagger that premiered at Motor Bike Expo 2019, as did many of the other top bikes from Italy.
The 3rd prize with another handcrafted RevTech powered bike went to Mainz-based Magnus Wilhelm/Germany and his „Magnus „IV“. The German craftsman has now completed four RevTech powered custombikes of different styles.
How close the race was in the Jammer Old School class is visible by the fact that class winner „La Veloce“ by Hazard Motorcycles, Bergamo/Italy did beat „Newaza“, the handcrafted masterpiece by Radikal Chopper/Italy, entered by owner Andrea Ferro who rode (!) the bike around Lake Faak during the week! Both bikes remained head to head until the last votes came in and gave the future Bonneville racer with open valve train in a modified Sportster Ironhead the win and the € 1.000,– voucher before the completely handmade custom chopper.
„Lady Danger“, customized by Mom’s Worry/ Italy completed the „full sweep“ of Italian customizers in the Jammer Old School class – and their were more high-class entries in this category: „Old King“ by Vito Klemenscic, VK Custom Motorcycles in Apace/Slovenia received the BIKER FEST 2019 SPECIAL AWARD with a booth space at the great Italian biker event, organized by Biker’s Life Magazine.
No other class experiences such a different participation like „Chopper“: This year, three competitors (other potential „Chopper“ candidates entered in other categories) competed for the trophies with „Red Horse“ by Omega Motors Company/France scoring top honors before the handcrafted and homebuilt „Leviathan“ by Maik Schweitzer from Griesheim/Germany, not far from CCE’s headquarter and warehouse. 3rd place in „Chopper“ went to „Geri 71“ by Hellbound and Custom Hands, the Offenbach/Germany based handlebar specialist that presented many outstanding parts and bikes at Arneitz Custom Show.
In the Bagger class, this year´s „showdown“ attracted some of the most outstanding bikes around the lake: Winning the class with the first-ever frame that adjusts the steering head automatically to the hydraulically lifted rolling chassis, the „Hidro“ by Biker Sheriff of Cimavilla/Treviso/Italy premiered at Motor Bike Expo 2019 and has since won many awards! From as far as Vilnius/Lithuania, „Pro Solid“ by Tommy & Sons was one of two outstanding Bagger style touring bikes that were entered into the show by the Lithuanian specialists and with a 3rd position, „Bloody Cherry“ by Twisted Pistons of Trooz/Belgium did beat closely a number of competitors that underlined the popularity of this class!
Last, but certainly not least, the „Sportster Engine“ class saw a great variety of themes with the extreme „Blackbeard” Sportster, built by Thomas Schwartbartl of Leibnitz/Austria came in first, thanks to its radical style and massive front wheel! „Abyss“ by Biker Sheriff Cimavilla/Treviso/Italy added another trophy to the collection of the Italian top customizer and the “XL 1958 Ironhead” Sportster by Peter van den Barselaar was built by a Junior Customizer Team at the Motorcycle Accademy/Holland for which Peter is one of the teachers and hosts of the program.
The crowd was – as always – huge and the bike show was well attended from start to finish! Thanks to all competitors for the excellent motorcycles exhibited! Special thanks also to the high-class panel of judges that included members of the press, Moreno Persello of Bikers Life/Italy, Onno Wieringa, Dimitri from Russia, Adil and Nasser of Emirates Custom Show fame, Frank Sander and „Special Guest“ Pit Legner aka „Kamikaze Pit“ who has retired from „Wall of Death“ riding but still has many world records in building rideable miniature bikes: Their expert opinion is what makes this result solid and genuine. CCE-Partners sponsoring the show were exhaust specialist Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde, Kuryakyn, „Bolt On and Ride“ 2016 Bike-builder Cult Werk, Biker’s Life Magazine and Biker Fest 2020.
For its 18th edition in 2020, the CCE Faaker See Championship will again be at Arneitz Custom Show – the Show will go on. But than, hopefully in the sunshine of southern Carinthia …
